Yesterday we finally obtained various coils that were more sensitive than the coil on the LDC1000 EVM. The coil on the LDC1000 would not suffice because the inductance values for each coin overlapped with one another, making it useless to profile. In total we got about twelve coils. Although that may seem like a lot, we need a lot to test to see which is the most accurate. We figured out that the coil diameter had to be much smaller than the smallest coin we were using. A dime’s diameter is about 18 mm, and the diameter of the coils we obtained were about 7-8mm. The next step for us to take is to test out all the coils to see which one gives the most consistent readings.
